How to enable Search Engine Friendly URLs in Joomla?

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

To enable Search Engine Friendly(SEF) Urls in Joomla are as follows:

Joomla SEF URLs

  1. Open the Website.
  2. Go to Joomla Admin Panel.
  3. Login into Joomla Admin Panel.
  4. Click Global Configuration icon in Control Panel (or) In Menubar Site -> Global Configuration.
  5. On the Right Hand Side you will see SEO Settings as follows:Joomla SEF Disabled
  6. Now Enable Search Engine Friendly URLs & Add suffix to URLs which will look as follows:Joomla SEF Enabled

Why we enable SEF & Add suffix URLs means it change the URL from "http://www.questionkit.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9" to "http://www.questionkit.com/index.php/blog/4-blog/9-joomla-css-got-corrupted-when-i-enable-sef.html"

Add suffix to URLs is used to add .html at the end of each URL. So If search engine like google, yahoo, etc will consider the page as a static one.

Search Engine Friendly is used to change URLs from id values to alias values. You can find the alias value below each title of the article in Joomla Admin Article Manager. Alias value will be generated only on saving the article. You can also enter your own Alias value.
